The one thing you must do well...

Over the years I have heard this tip in one form or another - and I'm sure you've heard it as well but it is well worth repeating.

The one thing you must do well? LISTEN!

It sounds so simple but yet so many of us don't do it. Next time you're in a conversation with someone take notice of your thoughts. Are you worried about what you're going to say next instead of listening to the other person?

Do you always have a follow-up story? Such as "Oh yeah, I remember a time when that happened to me. It was when..."

Whenever you do either of these things, you are not being a good listener and don't for one second believe that the person who is speaking to you doesn't know that.

LISTEN. Listen CAREFULLY. Repeat what the person has said to be sure you heard them correctly and ask them follow up questions. This will go a long way in getting their respect.
